DAYTON — 6th to 12th grade students are encouraged to submit their creative works to Montgomery County Drug-Free Coalition’s annual Poster and Poetry Contest.
However, students should not feel obligated to create a poster or a poem as the coalition has expanded their contest to include video submissions as well. With this addition, the organization hopes to free students’ creativity, a spokesperson informed News Center 7.
Video submissions, in the past, have included skits, the spokesperson said.

All submissions must adhere to Montgomery County Drug-Free Coalition’s mission: increase public awareness of substance abuse or mental health.
The coalition incorporated mental health after a growing connection between it and substance abuse, the spokesperson stated.

Submissions will be separated into two divisions: 6th - 8th grade and 9th - 12th grade.
For each of these grade divisions, the entries will be categorized by type: poster, poem, and media.
There will be first and second place winners for each category in each division, plus a grand prize winner. The grand prize winner will be voted as the best creative work from all submitted entries. This totals 13 possible winners. However, “all contestants will be recognized for their participation,” the spokesperson stated in a press release.
The prizes have yet to be determined, the spokesperson said.
All submissions are due by Friday, January 27, 2023.
Students can upload their video links or scanned entries to the coalition website.
