Medics and officers were called around 2:45 a.m. to the Ernst Metal Technology facility on Kreitzer Road on reports of an industrial accident, initial reports indicate.

Workers reported Harper was injured after a large metal coil fell on him, a Moraine police spokesperson confirmed to News Center 7 in an emailed statement.

Harper was initially transported to an area hospital with critical injuries but later died.

Following Harper’s death, the facility will remain closed until Monday, a company spokesperson said in an emailed statement.

“We can confirm that a valued member of our team here at Ernst was injured during an accident early this morning and has since passed away. We have closed our plant until Monday morning to give the rest of our Ernst team time to grieve their loss,” Ernst President James Burt said in the statement.

“We also have been working with OSHA and local law enforcement to allow them access to our facility as needed, and with trusted partners to help us look into the accident.”

The police spokesperson confirmed investigators are looking into the incident, and additional details could come later today.

We’ll continue to update this story as we learn more.
