RIVERSIDE — A 17-year-old was indicted for a carjacking in the parking lot of a Riverside church in March.
Maverick M. Hamblin, is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday at 8:30 a.m., according to Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr.
Hamblin was indicted on two counts of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.
On March 22, Riverside police responded to a report of an armed robbery in the parking lot of the Airway Baptist Church.
Police say when they arrived, the victims described a suspect who had pointed a gun at them as they were seated in a vehicle. According to the prosecutor’s office, the victims were ordered out of the vehicle and told to lay on the ground.
The suspect reportedly took their cellphones and drove away in the victims’ vehicle.
The prosecutor’s office said due to the serious nature of the offenses and the defendant’s age and prior adjudications, the Juvenile Court judge granted the motion to transfer the defendant to be tried as an adult.
