Dayton Police responded to a dozen reports of shots fired over the weekend. One of them, a Friday night shooting on W. Second Street, was deadly.
There are a lot of questions about how it happened. Homicide detectives were called to piece together what happened, but the 911 caller added even more confusing information.
“He has a ski mask on, the guy that got shot, like he was robbing somebody,” a 911 caller told dispatchers.

The shooting is listed as a possible reckless homicide. As reported on News Center 7 at 5:00, that sometimes indicates that the gunfire was unintentional.
That wasn’t the only scary gunfire incident on the Fourth of July. Police were called to a block party involving possibly illegal fireworks displays and large crowds near W. Grand Avenue and Catalpa Drive.
Police confirmed that shots were fired there and two people were taken to local hospitals with injuries.
Monday evening, a Dayton police spokesperson said an additional two people were shot at this block party, making the total four.
Police reports obtained by News Center 7 showed that two other people were also injured by gunfire over the holiday weekend.
