Dayton NFL field finished after year of delays

DAYTON — A NFL quality field in Dayton is finally finished after being delayed a year.

The turf field was originally planned for Triangle Park but then had to move it amid concerns of disturbing a Native American burial ground

It now sits on the site of the former housing complex known as Parkside Homes.

The city did historical site testing and received approval from archaeologists and Native American groups before building on the site.

“The original intent was for primarily youth sports, of course, it could be used for a high school team,” explained Dayton city manager Joe Parlette.

The field is only marked for football due to guidelines set for the half million dollars donated by the NFL Foundation for the field.

The city contributed money for the fence and other items.

City planners think the field will last loner than the ten years a typical high school field lasts.

City leaders hope that NFL players will play at the new field, even if the coronavirus may delay play.

“We would always welcome the Bengals to practice here in Dayton, fans respond in big numbers,” said Parlette.

For those not connected to the city, there will be a small fee to rent the field.
