Police: Man passed out, spits at arrest

Dayton Police were called to Main St. at Monument Ave. Wednesday at 10:30 pm on the report of a man passed out behind the wheel of his car.

Officers report they found Travis Beasley, 28, unconscious behind the wheel of a vehicle at the intersection. The car was idling, in gear with the man’s foot on the brake.

Concerned if the man awoke he would take his foot off the brake, the officers parked a cruiser at the front of the vehicle. They tried to wake the man in various ways, such as knocking on the window, on the lower part of the door, then by sounding the cruiser’s siren and turning the spot light on the man’s face. The officer states “No matter how long or ard we knocked on the car, Beasley wouldn’t wake up.”

Police then used their lock tools to open the door and smelled pot and alcohol.

They had to use smelling salts to awaken the man, who became belligerant and spit multiple times in the officers’ faces.

He had to be subdued with a taser and pepper spray. He was taken to Montgomery County jail, booked on OVI, resisting arrest, and use of bodily fluids against a police officer. He has an initial appearance scheduled on Friday Dec. 19 in the afternoon docket.
