Man shot to death in Kenwood Avenue alley

UPDATE @ 4:20 p.m.

The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office has released the name of the man who was shot and killed early Saturday in an alley by Kenwood Avenue in Dayton.

William Jamar White, 27, of Dayton, has been identified as the victim in the open homicide investigation.

UPDATE @ 1:30 p.m.

A man in his late 20s, early 30s, was found shot to death in an alley where police believe the victim was part of a drug deal.

The victim suffered three to four gunshots to the torso and there were illegal narcotics in his pocket, according to Dayton Police Sgt. Creigee Coleman.

“So at this point we are assuming that this is possibly a drug deal gone bad or some type of illegal activity,” Coleman said.

Police are working to learn the identity of the victim in order to notify family of his death.

A passerby this morning notified police of the body lying in the alley way. Investigators learned that neighbors heard gunshots around 2 a.m. but did not report it to police.

Coleman said people who are afraid of reporting illegal activity can use the police department’s anonymous tip line.

“With the Crime Stoppers software you don’t necessarily have to give your name, you just have to call and give us a tip,” Coleman said. “That’s how a lot of crimes are solved is basic tips. If the roles were reversed and there was a possibility this was your family you would want the police, you would want the community, you would want the neighbors to work hard to put the person that caused your family harm to be incarcerated.”
