Dispute over cheese sticks ends in assault

An argument over cheese sticks landed one man in Montgomery County Jail.

Melvin Bernard Folks Jr., 25, is being held on a single count of assault, a misdemeanor, according to jail records.

Dayton police were called to the 100 block of South McGee Street around 4:50 a.m. Thursday for an assault.

The alleged victim, a 56-year-old man, told police he has permission to stay in the garage of a home on the street.

Between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m., the victim said he was approached by Melvin Folks who accused him of eating his cheese sticks, according to the police report. The man denied eating the cheese.

After a verbal argument, the victim said he was struck multiple times in the head.
