Coronavirus: Stebbins High School students will walk across stage to accept diplomas

DAYTON — Stebbins High School will be having an in-person graduation for its students on May 21st.

“We felt that our graduates need the closure and we wanted to give them the respect that they deserve,” Jenny Alexander, a Mad River Local Schools spokesperson said.

The district is making adjustments to comply with social distancing guidelines.

Families will wait in their cars in the parking lot. Each student will be limited to two guests. Administrators will call the families into the school auditorium one at a time so graduates can walk across the stage to get their diplomas. Then, the graduates will get to take a final walk through the school’s halls.

“This is just a sad time for everyone in the nation and the world, but we want our graduates to leave their high school years behind knowing that they received their diploma and they got to say goodbye,” Alexander said.

Alexander said, Jamee Ranta, A Stebbins High School alum who is now a music video producer in Los Angeles will put together a video of the ceremony. Ranta is also donating 300 masks with the school’s logo for the students to wear on graduation day.
