Police arrest three people who have been caught with paintball guns

Police have made arrests after several reports of people being shot at with paintball guns, said NewsCenter 7's Malik Perkins.

Police arrested 18-year-olds Cullen Williams and Qadir Al Karim, along with 19-year-old Khalid Owens last Sunday for assault in the 1000 block of Germantown Pike, according to a police report. The officer found paintball guns and drug paraphernalia on the teens.

A Dayton woman said her friend was shot by a group of teens with paintball guns on Shaftesbury Road; She thought he was hit by bullets at first because the paintballs tore through his clothes and he was bleeding. "He was hit with one of the paintball guns like three times. It tore his skin up and everything," the woman said.

The group of young men in the car pulled up beside her friend and said, "Do you know where you are?" before open firing on him. The barrage of paintballs knocked him to the ground, where it took him a few minutes to realize it wasn’t a real gun. It is unknown if the teens arrested are responsible for this incident.

The woman also said she wants this to stop before someone mistakes these paintball guns for a real threat. "He [her friend] is licensed to carry. He didn't have his weapon on him but what if he did? They would have been shot with a real gun." Her friend was not seriously injured and is recovering.

Montgomery County dispatch has confirmed two paintball gun shooting incidents near the 2000 block of Shaftesbury Road in Dayton.

Dispatch confirmed the shootings occurred shortly after 12:30 a.m. on Sunday. Several people called saying they thought they had been hit by a BB gun.

Dayton police do not know how many people are involved in the shootings nor have they released any suspects at this time.
