Truck fire causes Montgomery County solid waste/recycling facility to shut down early

MORAINE — A truck fire Tuesday afternoon at the Montgomery County Solid Waste District’s Transfer & Recycling Facility in Moraine caused the business to close early.

The facility, 1001 Encrete Lane, closed about 3:45 p.m. after the fire that broke out in one of the tunnels.

There were no injuries.

Montgomery County officials are working to ensure operations are safe and up-and-running at the facility, which provides waste disposal services for commercial and residential customers. Its campus also includes drop-offs for yard waste, mixed recycling, and special items that cannot be disposed of at home, such as scrap tires, appliances, electronics, household hazardous waste and more.

Tuesday night, a spokeswoman for county environmental services said the facility will be open for regular business hours Wednesday.

Regular hours for the facility are 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
