Dayton-area storm spotters talk about how they prepare for severe weather in this week’s episode of Cloudy with a Chance of Podcast

Cloudy with a Chance of Podcast is back.

In this week’s episode, Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist McCall Vrydaghs and Meteorologist Kirstie Zontini sat down with members of Dayton Skywarn to talk more about the group and how they are preparing for severe weather season.

Dayton Skywarn is a network of amateur radio operators and trained storm spotters who are partnering with the National Weather Service to hold Storm Spotter training classes through May. Anyone can attend and become a trained storm spotter for the NWS for free.

If you are interested in becoming a storm spotter, here are the scheduled training sessions offered by the NWS. 

Aside from the important and life-saving information the group provides the NWS during severe weather, we also learned several members are volunteers for the American Red Cross and Ohio Task Force 1. Two men, Gary Clark and Mike Carter, share their very personal accounts of what it is like to drop everything and go help communities wrecked by different weather events.
