Crash, repairs to damaged barrier cause heavy backups on I-70 in Clark Co. Thursday

SPRINGFIELD TWP., Clark County — A crash and repairs to a median blocked lanes in both directions of I-70 in Clark County, causing significant traffic delays for hours Thursday.

State troopers and medics were first called around 12:30 p.m. to I-70 near U.S. 68 after the crash was reported.

According to initial reports, a semitrailer in the eastbound lanes hit and damaged the concrete median, which separated the eastbound lanes from a single, westbound lane in place due to construction. Part of the barrier then hit a vehicle traveling in the westbound lane, causing the vehicle to overturn, initial reports indicate.

It was not known how many people were injured in the crash, or their conditions.

Following the crash crews worked for hours to repair the median wall, blocking the left lanes both eastbound and westbound. Repairs were completed and the lanes reopened around 5 p.m. Thursday.

Additional details were not immediately available.
