Former Dayton Flyer forward transferring to New Mexico

DAYTON — Former Dayton Flyer forward Mustapha Amzil announced Friday he will be transferring to the University of New Mexico.

He made the announcement on social media.

“What’s good 505!!” he said on Twitter.

The Helsinki, Finland native spent three years in Dayton after joining the team midway through the 2020-21 season.

Amzil entered the transfer portal on March 21 and thanked Dayton fans when he announce his intention to enter the transfer portal.

“Thank you to the amazing fans and the community of Dayton that have cheered me on during my time here and providing me with a home that will always hold a special place in my heart. I will cherish all the memories and relationships I’ve built during my time here,” Amzil said in the post.

Amzil’s time in a Dayton uniform will be most remembered for the game-winning shot over eventual national champion Kansas at the 2021 ESPN Events Invitational in Orlando.

In his final season at Dayton, Amzil played in all 34 games and started in 19 of those games, finishing third on the team in scoring at around nine points per game. He was among the team leaders in free throw percentage and rebounds.
