Russia High School falls in state semifinals of boys basketball tournament

DAYTON — Russia High School’s run in the boys basketball tournament ended Friday night losing to Richmond Heights, 66-51, in the Division IV state semifinals.

Brayden Monnin led the Raiders with 20 points while Hayden Quinter added 17.

Russia made 19 of 38 shots, good for 50%, but committed 22 turnovers.

The Spartans had four players score in double figures and made 23 of 47 shots.

Dorian Jones scored 17 points while Hosea Steele, Junior added 16.

Russia led 13-8 after one quarter and trailed 27-25 at halftime.

The Raiders stayed closed and trailed, 39-38, late in the third quarter. But Jones’ dunk put the Spartans ahead, 41-38, after three.

Richmond Heights opened the fourth quarter outscoring Russia, 13-4, to extend the advantage to 54-42 and never looked back.

The Spartans will play Richmond Heights Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
