Elly De La Cruz, the top prospect in the organization and widely viewed as one of the top prospects in all of baseball, hit his first Major League home run, a 458-foot drive, Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

He also hit a triple as he went 2 for 4 as the Reds beat the Dodgers, 8-6, at Great American Ball Park.

De La Cruz’s two-run home run came in his sixth Major League plate appearance and tied the game at 2-2 in the first inning.

The Reds trailed the Dodgers, 6-2, but scored four times in the third to tie at 6-6.

It stayed that way until the bottom of the ninth when Will Benson hit a two-run walk-off home run to win it for Cincinnati. It was also Benson’s first career home run.

De La Cruz and Benson are the first Reds teammates to their first MLB career home runs in the same game since 1907.

The Reds will go for the sweep Thursday afternoon.

First pitch is scheduled for 12:35 p.m.
