The Vandalia Star Spangled Celebration scheduled for tonight will still have fireworks, but activities planned before the display are now canceled due to rain.
The fireworks are scheduled to start at 10 p.m. at the Vandalia Sports Complex, 1101 Stonequarry Road, which are presented by Rozzi’s Famous Fireworks.
The musical acts and finals of Vandalia’s Got Talent competition will not take place, according to the city.
In Fairfield, the annual Red, White & Kaboom fireworks show will be launched a half hour early, at 9:30 p.m., due to the inclement weather.
Outside of significant wind and lightning, the show is set to happen rain or shine.
Thousands of people come to either Harbin Park (where they fire of the fireworks) or Village Green Park, and countless others watching from backyard viewing parties around the parks. There is usually a Fireworks Swim at the city’s Aquatic Center, but because of Sunday’s threat of storms and the temperatures staying below 70 degrees, that was canceled.
