Casting has begun for HBO’s prequel that is set 300 years before the events in “Game of Thrones.”
HBO has started casting and committed 10 episodes so far to “House of the Dragon” a series that will focus on the history of House Targaryen and will be based on the book “Fire & Blood” by George R.R. Martin, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Because “Fire & Blood” covers a 150 year time span, casting for the series is expected to include a wide range of characters including King Viserys I, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Queen Alicent Hightower and Aegon II Targaryen. There is some speculation that the series could be broken into pieces because of the many years between plot lines. The Targaryen Civil War is a major event referenced in the original “Game of Thrones” and is expected in the new series.
HBO attempted a “Game of Thrones” prequel starring Naomi Watts, but that project which was filmed in Northern Ireland was abandoned in 2019.
The series is expected to premiere on HBO in 2022.
