Coronavirus: Ohio governor announces virtual Spirit Week

It’s OK to wear your pajamas in Ohio on Monday. All day.

For residents getting cabin fever because of the coronavirus pandemic, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine proposed a lighthearted way to enjoy being at home.

“In an effort to have some lighthearted fun, we’re having a virtual Spirit Week in #Ohio," DeWine tweeted Sunday.

The week begins with Pajama Day on Monday -- even during meetings, DeWine said. Tuesday is Garden Day, where residents are urged to plant their gardens. Wednesday will be Salute Your Hero Day, where people are asked to dress up as their hero, draw a picture or share a video about doctors, nurses, truck drivers, firefighters and teachers.

Thursday will be Spirit Day, where residents can show their fanaticism for their favorite school or sports team. The week ends with Pizza Day: order pizza or make your own.

The virtual Spirit Week comes a week after DeWine announced his decision to keep schools closed to slow the spread of coronavirus, WKYC reported.

DeWine suggested that participants tag their pictures with #SpiritWeekOhio, #InThisTogetherOhio and #StayHomeOhio. The state will feature photos on its social media platforms, WOIO reported.

Not all residents find Spirit Week amusing, however.

“This is incredibly tone deaf,” one person tweeted.

“Lighthearted. Really? You have no idea how many Ohioans who voted for you hate you right now. Open Ohio,” another person tweeted.
