Amazon has made its empire online, but now the retailer is going into a new frontier. The company is expanding into physical locations, similar to traditional department stores, The Wall Street Journal reported.
They will open several locations in the U.S. in the future that will carry clothing, household items and electronics, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The first department stores will be located in Ohio and California, and each will have an area of about 30,000 square feet.
CNBC reported that is about the size of a Kohl’s or T.J. Maxx.
This isn’t the first time the company has expanded into an in-person shopping experience.
The company owns the Whole Foods supermarket chain and has opened stores under the Amazon banner like Amazon Fresh, Amazon Go grocery and convenience stores, Amazon Books, Amazon 4-Star outlet and Amazon pop-up locations.
