DELAWARE COUNTY — A woman accused of causing a fiery crash that killed a Columbus-area family of four earlier this year in Delaware County has been indicted on criminal charges.

Laylah Bordeau was indicted on eight counts of aggravated vehicular homicide stemming from the crash on I-71 in March, according to our news partners at WBNS-TV in Columbus. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Bordeau had fentanyl in her system March 29 when the crash happened.

The crash killed a family of four from Powell, Ohio, Brian Sperl, 42, Abigail Sperl, 38, and their children Bastion, 14, and Lincoln, 11, the station reports.

According to state troopers, Bordeau was driving a pickup truck north on I-71 when the truck went off the road, crossed the median, hit a cable barrier and went into the southbound lanes.

The truck then crashed into the Sperl’s SUV head-on, and hit a semitrailer, causing the semi to overturn and catch fire. Bordeau’s truck also caught fire after the crash.

At the time, Bordeau told state troopers she did not remember the crash, according to WBNS-TV. She also told investigators she does not drink or have a drug problem however, lab results later confirmed Bordeau had more than 92 nanograms per milliliter of fentanyl in her system at the time of the crash.

Bordeau is currently being held in the Delaware County Jail. Her arraignment has not yet been set.
