Ohio University’s president and Dayton native Roderick McDavis announced today that he is stepping down at the end of his contract.
McDavis, Ohio University’s 20th president, announced his departure today, effective June 30, 2017.
He told a crowd in the Walter Hall rotunda that his 12 years as president were some of the “happiest and most fulfilling years” of his life.
“I never could have imagined when I first arrived on campus as a shy 17-year-old from Dayton that this university would transform me and touch my life in so many ways,” McDavis stated. “This university has always held such a very special place in my heart. Serving as the 20th president of my alma mater has been the high point of my career.”
In a series of tweets early this evening, McDavis said he gave his notice 16 months in advance so the university’s board of trustees has plenty of time to search for a new president and “to ensure a smooth transition.”
“This (university) has always held such a special place in my heart. This is not a decision I take lightly,” McDavis tweeted.
