Rhine McLin named to Democratic National Committee role

Former Dayton mayor and Ohio Democratic Party Vice Chairwoman Rhine McLin will serve as the Midwest Vice Chair of the Association of State Democratic Chairs during the Democratic National Committee’s summer meeting in Minneapolis, Minn.

Her new role underscores the importance of Ohio for Democrats across the country.

“Ohio Democrats helped to win the White House for President Obama twice, and we will play a critical role in 2016,” McLin stated. “I hope to learn as much as I can from my colleagues, bring best practices here to Ohio and advocate effectively for the Midwest states to receive time, attention and resources from the DNC and our 2016 nominee.”

A Dayton native, McLin in 2002 became the city’s first woman mayor. She previously served six years in the Ohio House of Representatives, from 1988-94, and became the first black woman to serve in the state Senate following her election in 1994 to Ohio’s 5th Senate District.
