Newlyweds share first dance on shut down U.S. 35

A just-married couple on the way to their reception became trapped in traffic Saturday evening after a multiple-vehicle accident shut down the highway for nearly two hours.

Jeff and Rebecca Payne of Centerville celebrated their nuptials in Beavercreek and were on the way to their reception at Top of the Market, 32 Webster St., in downtown Dayton. That’s when they were stuck in the crash that took awhile for crews to clean up. Only one person was taken to a local hospital and no injuries were serious.

The couple used the time to share their first dance as a married couple, and strangers were taking photos and using the hashtag #rescuethepaynes on social media sites, including Facebook and Twitter. You can watch the couple’s special moment captured by videographer Levi Curby above.

All westbound lanes of U.S. 35 are back open after they were shut down for nearly two hours tonight following a crash with up to five vehicles.

At least one person was taken to Miami Valley Hospital following a crash tonight that shut down the westbound lanes of U.S. 35 near the Steve Whalen Boulevard exit. No serious injuries were reported in the crash, and there were no fatalities, according to the Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center.

The crash shut down the westbound lanes beginning at shortly before 6 p.m.

U.S. 35 W remains shut down at the Steve Whalen Boulevard exit.

The highway is blocked in the stretch between Interstate 675 and I-75 for the crash reported to involve five vehicles. We’re working to find out how many people are injured.

FIRST REPORT

A multiple-vehicle injury crash this evening has shut down the westbound lanes of U.S. 35 in Dayton.

The crash was reported around 5:40 p.m. near the Steve Whalen Boulevard exit.

According to initial reports, as many as five vehicles were involved in the crash, with one car reported on its top.
