A Xenia family had a scary morning after storms brought a tree down on their home.
“First thing I heard: My wife scream,” said Kenneth Goodrum, whose home on Chesnut Street was damaged by the tree around 3:30 a.m.
“As she was screaming, I heard the crash at the same time,” he said. “I heard my kids scream. I’m not going to lie, I woke up screaming myself. I had to quickly get myself together because my first priority is to get my family out.”
Goodrum said he rushed his family out of the home and called police.
At the time, wind gusts of 47 mph were reported in Xenia. High winds from the storms brought down power lines in the area and caused other damage.
At Goodrum’s home, he said: “I thank God because it’s not as bad as it looks. There is some roof damage.”
His biggest concern is that the tree brought down lines and knocked out power his neighbor. He said he’s working to get it cleaned up quickly so power can be restored to his neighbor’s home.
Goodrum, a Cleveland native, said he wasn’t surprised by the damage since he was living in Xenia when a tornado damaged the fairgrounds in 2000.
“Living in this area I’m very aware of it. We pray every night. So we just thank god our prayers are answer. Nobody was hurt,” he said.
