Wave of showers, storms to hit late morning

A decent wave of showers and storms is expected to come through the area on Wednesday, sometime between late morning and afternoon, Storm Center 7 Meteorologist McCall Vrydaghs said Tuesday night.

The timing of these waves can speed or slow, but the biggest threats would be heavy downpours, gusty winds and the potential for some hail.

The best chance for severe weather may come Thursday night with an approaching cold front and those strong storms could persist into early Friday. Again, gusty winds and flooding will be our biggest threats with the passage of the front.

The only thing that helps the situation is the timing of the front. It will pass through the night, rather than the day when we see peak heating. Storms should lose some strength overnight.

Friday: A cold front will cross the area early to bring showers, storms and the threat of minor flooding. Gusts of more than 30 mph are possible with the front. Temps will start in the 60s, then fall through the day.

Saturday: Lots of sun with seasonable highs in the upper 50s.

Sunday: High clouds return, but there no rain in the forecast. Temps reach the upper 60s.
