Teen arrested in robbery of Subway in Moraine

UPDATE @ 10:55 p.m. (Feb. 4): A male juvenile, believed to be 16, is in the Montgomery County Juvenile Detention Center pending the filing of a charge accusing him of robbing the Subway sandwich shop on Tuesday night, Moraine police Sgt. Jason Neubauer said.

The boy was arrested mid-afternoon, based on information given to West Carrollton police. Their officers brought the boy to Moraine police and during his interview with investigators, he made comments that suggested he had information about and was involved in the robbery, Neubauer said.

Neubauer said the boy lives in the West Carrollton neighborhood where a K-9 unit stopped tracking Tuesday night in the aftermath of the robbery.

UPDATE @ 9:10 p.m. (Feb. 3): A white male robbery suspect was wearing dark clothing, a hooded sweatshirt and gloves when he jumped the counter and took cash from the Subway sandwich shop, Moraine police Sgt. Jason Neubauer said.

Store employees were in the back of the eatery, tending to business, when the robber walked in and jumped the counter, the sergeant said. The employees startled the robber when they returned to the front of the store, and he ran out the front door.

No weapon was shown and no one was injured, Neubauer said, and the description from employees has police working on the theory the intruder was a younger man.

Police and a Kettering K-9 unit tracked a scent to Dinsmore and Ormand roads in West Carrollton, where the search stopped. Where the search stopped is an indication the robber may be familiar with the area, Neubauer said, committing a crime somewhere he could flee and get away.

Police were dispatched to the store in response to a panic alarm, he said.

Anyone with information about the robber or the robbery is asked to call Moraine police at 937-535-1166.
