New location for Dayton Demolition hockey team

The Dayton Demolition professional hockey team will debut a new location for home matches today.

The Demolition — which abandoned the venerable Hara Arena this week due to financial distress — will now play its matches at South Metro Sports, a recreational center in Centerville.

The team plays Friday night against the Federal Hockey League-leading Danville Dashers. Puck drops at 7:40 p.m. Tickets are $9.

South Metro owner Nick Poe confirmed to sports reporter Sean McClelland the game indeed will take place and that he hopes to help the Demolition finish the season.

“Here’s the deal,” said Poe, a former Dayton Bombers equipment manager who bought South Metro in 2014. “I can make it work, but not every game’s going to be in this building. I’m smart enough to know it can’t be in this building all the time.”

The Demolition, currently fourth in the FHL standings, have about 200 season-ticket holders and have been averaging less than 1,000 fans.
