White powder found in Wright-Patt  mail room determined non-hazardous, remains under investigation

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE — Wright-Patterson Air Force Base officials are investigating a suspicious package containing a white powder in the base mail room located in building 258 in Area A.

Officials have determined the powder to be “non-hazardous,” according to the base.

Three people who were in direct contact with the package were taken to the hospital, which is standard procedure and was done “through an abundance of caution,” base officials said. They have since been released, according to the base.

The area around building 258 was cordoned off for specially trained hazardous material personnel, but it has since been reopened for regular traffic.

Spokesman Daryl Mayer said no further information will be released as the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Fairborn Fire Department assisted with the response.
