Woman, dog escape house fire in Springfield

An elderly woman and her dog escaped a house fire in Springfield on Monday that severely damaged the house.

Springfield fire officials said the cause of the fire, in the 2800 block of Wellsford Lane, remains under investigation.

Crews were dispatched about 3:30 p.m. and arrived to find heavy smoke.
