WEST CARROLLTON — A West Carrollton police officer went above and beyond the line of duty after a woman was bilked out of more than $200.
Becky Self was selling her laptop, mouse, tray, and carrying bag on Facebook Marketplace. She said she sold it to a man who was there with his girlfriend on Monday.
Self saw the cash they were using to buy the laptop and was skeptical, but accepted it anyway.

“I was devastated,” Self said after learning that the money was indeed counterfeit. “Angry at myself because I didn’t listen to my gut, my gut kept saying Becky this is not real but I’m like don’t judge, don’t judge.”
She filed a report with the West Carrollton police department on Tuesday after having them determine whether the cash was fake.
Wednesday she got a message from Officer Moore, who was the responding officer, and he told her he wanted to talk to her.
Moore went to Self’s apartment at Canterbury Court with his wife and handed Becky an envelope. Inside, $210, the exact amount Self lost because of the bogus sale of her laptop.
“He’s like, it’s a Merry Christmas to you from me and my family and I was blown away,” Self said. “Just police officers need all the kudos that they can get. Officer Moore, West Carrollton police deserves to be known what a wonderful gracious heart that he has.”
Becky says she hopes if anyone recognizes either one of the two people that they contact the West Carrollton police department. Self said if she could talk to the two people she met that bought the laptop she said she would tell them that she feels sorry for them and that she would pray for their life and doesn’t want them to end up in prison.
