Truck carrying 40K pounds of contaminated soil from East Palestine overturns

COLUMBIANA COUNTY — A truck carrying contaminated soil from the East Palestine derailment overturned Monday, spilling its contents onto a roadway.

The tractor-trailer was traveling on State Route 165 in Columbiana County when it traveled off the roadway and overturned, according to a media release.

An estimated 20,000 pounds of soil spilled onto the roadway and berm, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The spill was able to be contained and is not a threat to nearby waterways, according to the Ohio EPA.

The driver sustained minor injuries.

So far in total, 11.3 million gallons of liquid wastewater and nearly 20,000 tons of soil have been hauled out of East Palestine
