StubHub: Why tickets for Super Bowl are so costly, who’s buying them

DAYTON — Those planning to attend Super Bowl LVI will have to shell out thousands of dollars just to get into the game.

Adam Budelli, partnerships and business development at StubHub, told News Center 7′s Kayla McDermott that there are only about 1,000 tickets left to go to the game.

That may sound like a lot but is really only a small percentage for So-Fi Stadium.

While the number of sales for the Super Bowl is not surprising, what is shocking is the prices.

Budelli said this Super Bowl is the most expensive in terms of the average ticket price.

He said the reason tickets are ranging from $4,500 all the way to almost $50,000 is because of the location in Los Angeles and the demand from two huge fan bases.

In regards to how ticket prices are determined Budelli said ticket resale websites like StubHub do not control the prices.

“It’s a matter of what the sellers are willing to put out there and what the market dictates the buyers are going to spend,” Budelli said.

Budelli told News Center 7 that while the tickets are extremely high, there are more midwesterners flying to LA than one would think.

Roughly 11 percent of StubHub’s sales are coming from Ohio and another four percent from Kentucky, according to Budelli.

Budelli shared a couple of warnings about buying tickets for this important event.

He advised against buying tickets with cash last minute off the street because there’s no way to ensure what you are getting is genuine.

Budelli also warns to never post your barcode anywhere online or share it with a friend — that is the easiest way for your tickets to get stolen from you.
