Springfield man dead after crash on SR 72 in Clark County

CLARK COUNTY — A Springfield man is dead following a crash in Clark County Friday morning.

Troopers responded to a single vehicle crash that happened around 8:45 a.m. on SR-72 near miler marker 12 in Moorefield Township, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The preliminary investigation shows a vehicle driven by Paul Rife, 63, of Springfield, was heading northbound on SR-72 when he traveled off the right side of the roadway, striking a utility pole and a tree.

Rife was transported to Kettering Health in life threatening condition where he succumbed to his injuries, OSHP said.

The crash remains under investigation at this time. Alcohol is not suspected to be a contributing factor.
