Spine found in Dayton alley

A man walking in the alley behind his residence Thursday night found a spine with several ribs intact.

The disturbing discovery occurred around 8 p.m. in the 200 block of Air St. The spine was approximately the same length as a human spine.

He called police, who bagged and tagged the item, noting in their report that it "appeared to have been in the elements for some time, due to the extent of wear."

The spine went to the property room of the Dayton Police Dept.

We called the Montgomery County Coroner's office to find out if it was from a human. It was not.

Jim Glaser, a coroner's investigator, said it was a dog's spine.
