Snow downs large tree limbs, surprises Xenia residents

Drake Drive Snowy Tree

XENIA — A blanket of snow and downed tree limbs surprised a Xenia couple as they went to leave for their morning paper delivery route Wednesday morning.

“We couldn’t back out of the driveway, couldn’t go up and down the street,” said Thomas Johnson, who lives off Drake Drive.

A heavy snow that accumulated several inches appeared to have weighted down part of the tree, which fell down overnight, but Johnson said they never heard it happen.

“I didn’t think it was going to do this.  I thought maybe we’d get a little dusting or something,” Johnson said.

Thomas and his wife Loretta went out to the car to head to work and were blocked in by the downed tree limbs, but after cleaning it up they said they were heading out to deliver their papers.

The snow also brought down a tree limb on wires on Penewit Road in Sugarcreek Twp., prompting emergency crews to temporarily shut down the road near State Route 725.
