DAYTON — Sinclair Community College grads who finished the Respiratory Care Program are now serving on the frontlines of the pandemic.

“Respiratory therapists have always played a vital role in caring for patients, but the rise in COVID-19 cases has elevated our role significantly,” said Jamie Pence, 2012 Sinclair College Respiratory Care Program graduate and current registered respiratory therapist (RRT) for Kettering Health Network.

“It is a challenging field, but it is also incredibly rewarding. The invaluable hands-on training and one-on-one attention I received at Sinclair provided the skills I use every day to treat patients with lifesaving measures.”

Since the COVID-19 pandemic and the growth in the middle-aged and elderly population there has been an increase in the demand for respiratory therapists, the release said.

My journey at WHIO-TV began when I took a summer internship on the Breaking News Desk in May 2019. At a young age I quickly realized I had a passion for writing and the power words can have on our lives. Seeking opportunities to give those who feel voiceless a place to be heard is what drives me each day and reminds me why I began writing.
