MIAMISBURG — A Miamisburg man will spend the next 25 years in prison after he send nude photos to an undercover FBI agent posing as a minor.

Steven Shawn Smith, 48, pleaded guilty back in January, but was sentenced today for attempting to coerce a minor while registered as a sex offender.

“Smith requested nude images from the undercover agent on multiple occasions,” the U.S. Department of Justice said. “The defendant also sent images of his nude genitalia to the undercover agent.”

The crimes happened from April 2020 through October 2020, the DOJ said.

Court records show Smith created nine online dating profiles using the names “Sammy” and “Shaw”

“In addition to communicating with the undercover agent, Smith messaged more than 170 other online users who identified themselves as minors,” the DOJ said. “He received sexually explicit images from at least 21 of the purported minors and sent nude images of himself to at least 70 users.”

During the investigating, agents found Smith discussed meeting with the purported minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct and sent the agent $75 using Cash App, so the purported minor could buy a bus ticket to Ohio.

He was arrested in October after sending the money.

Smith was previously convicted in 1994 for child rape and was required to register as a sex offender.
