As reported on News Center 7 at 5:30, severe weather is raising the price of insurance.

One neighbor said it is almost too much to handle.

It seems like a never-ending list — higher prices around every corner.

“I don’t think anything is untouched,” Julie Guzman said.

It has Guzman making sacrifices to make sure bills are paid.

“We definitely decreased our vacations. We don’t have as much fun money anymore. That and literally every dollar is counted before it gets spent,” she said.

Home insurance for Ohioans has increased more than 36 percent from 2019-2024, according to S&P Global.

And it may be out of your control.

TRENDING STORIES:

Ohio has seen an increasingly high number of tornadoes each year.

Ohio averages about 25 tornadoes a year.

In 2024, the Buckeye State set a record for tornadoes at 74.

In that same year, the Miami Valley alone saw 25.

Guzman said she’s seen the recent high tornado risk in her area impact prices already during a roofing project on her house.

“We called the insurance company right with the roofer there, and the insurance guy knew exactly what he was going to say. So I don’t feel like that was a coincidence,” she said.

Guzman said she is paying much closer attention to her insurance plans’ deductibles.
