School vaccinations: These districts will get COVID-19 shots for teachers, staff this week

MIAMI VALLEY — The Ohio Department of Health has released a list of schools that will receive vaccines this week to give to teachers and staff as part of the state’s plan to get students back in the classroom.

In the Miami Valley, only districts in Montgomery and Butler counties are receiving any vaccines this week.

Ohio will make vaccine available to 91,000 K-12 teachers and school personnel who are necessary to provide in-person education to students, the state said. Cincinnati Public Schools was the first in the state to offer vaccinations to its staff.

“Due to the scarcity of vaccine, the process will take weeks, but Ohio’s goal is to have all first doses administered by the end of February,” the state said. “To be eligible to receive vaccine, districts had to commit to remaining or returning to in-person learning full-time or in a hybrid model by March 1.”

Kettering City Schools were not included on the state’s list of schools receiving vaccines, because the district is partnering with a different pharmacy partner than the state.

“I want to assure any KCS employee who wants to get the COVID-19 vaccine that this will be available to you free of charge in the very near future,” said Kettering Superintendent Scott Inskeep. Kettering will be partnering with Walgreens to have the district’s teacher’s vaccinated. “We are hopeful we may be able to confirm the date for the vaccination administration by the end of this week,” Inskeep said.
