HARRISON TOWNSHIP — Old, decommissioned fire hoses will be getting a second life as part of a joint program from the Harrison Township Fire Department and Northridge Local School District.

The program plans to take parts of retired fire hoses and turn them into sleeves that can then be slipped over the hydraulic hardware of doors. This will lock the doors in place so they can’t be opened, according to a press release.
“I am very proud of the relationship we have built with the Northridge Local School District.” Chief Michael Crist said. “During an emergency, every second counts and by working together we are helping the school to better protect its staff and students.”

The sleeves will add another layer of safety to the classroom in case of a lockdown situation.
20 sections of hoses were given as donations to the Northridge Local School District.
