The American Red Cross, Rebuilding Together Dayton, the Dayton Fire Department and others will hold a home fire safety and smoke alarm installation event April 28 from 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Job and Family Services located at 1111 S. Edwin C. Moses Blvd. in Dayton, according to Cory Paul of the American Red Cross Dayton Area Chapter.

Trained volunteers will go to the Carillion neighborhood the same day to install free smoke alarms and help families with a fire escape plan from 9:30 a.m until 3 p.m., Paul said.

“The goal of the campaign is to reduce the number of home fire deaths and injuries by 25 percent. To make this impact, we must start locally,” Paul said.

Seven people die per day due to home fires across the country, with 60 percent of deaths occurring because of no or nonworking smoke alarms, according to Paul.
