Chief: Fire in vacant house on South Findlay in Dayton deemed suspicious

UPDATE @ 8:05 p.m.: The fire in the attic of a vacant house in the 200 block of South Findlay Street is being investigated as suspicious, Dayton Battalion Chief Rennes Bowers said.

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the attic, so much so that you couldn’t see down the street, Bowers said.

The house appears to have been vacant for some time and there was no sign of squatters, he said.

Bowers estimated the damage at $12,000.

INITIAL REPORT

An arson investigator has been sent to a structure fire in the 200 block of South Findlay Street in Dayton.

Crews were dispatched just after 7:15 p.m. on a report of a fire in a second-story dwelling. Crews called for a ladder because flames were seen coming from the upper floor.
