Man at local hospital for observation after Xenia standoff

XENIA — UPDATE @ 2:02 p.m.

The subject involved in a standoff with Xenia Police is now at Greene Memorial Hospital for observation. Officers were able to remove him from the home on North King Street without incident.

UPDATE @ 1:32 p.m.:

A man is in custody after a standoff with Xenia police lasted for more than an hour.

Officers surrounded the home in the 700 block of North King Street around noon Friday.

During the standoff officers fired non-lethal rounds at the man, who was said to be armed with kitchen knives and what was believed to be a pizza cutter.

The man exited the home around 1:30 p.m., sat on a bench and police swarmed him, taking the suspect into custody.

We’re working to learn the man’s identity and what charges he may face in connection to the incident.

INITIAL REPORT:

Police have surrounded a home on North King Street in Xenia this afternoon.

Our crew on the scene spotted a man waving what appeared to be two kitchen knives and a pizza cutter as officers surrounded the house.

The incident was reported shortly after noon.
