Man charged in police chase that exceeds 100 mph in Greene County

CEDARVILLE — An 18-year-old man is facing charges in connection to a police chase involving a stolen vehicle reached speeds over 100 mph early Saturday morning.

Coltin Lynn Downing was charged with receiving stolen property and failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, according to the jail booking site.

Both charges are felonious.

Two passengers in the vehicle at the time of the chase were released.

A Greene County deputy started the chase after a dark vehicle passed their cruiser with its brights on near U.S. 68 and Old Springfield Road around 3 a.m., according to an incident report.

The deputy noticed that the vehicle matched the description of a stolen vehicle that fled Fairborn police and attempted a traffic stop.

The vehicle took off ant attempted to flee, reaching speeds over 100 miles per hour.

When the vehicle entered the Cedarville, Officer Jayson Ruth threw stop sticks, causing the driver to crash, according to a post on Cedarville’s Facebook page.

“The three men inside the vehicle fled through our town in different directions,” the post read.

Several 911 calls were phoned into Greene County dispatch from citizens in the area, which helped in the three males getting caught.

A helicopter and two police K-9 units assisted as well as several deputies and Huber Heights police, the post read.
