Parachute jumpers from across the country to celebrate Miami Valley WWII veteran’s 100th birthday

Parachute jumpers from all over the country will soon pay tribute to a Miami Valley veteran for his 100th birthday.

“100th birthday is no different than a 30th one, and to tell you the truth, I don’t feel any different,” Jim ‘Pee Wee’ Martin said. “The only time I feel old is when I look in the mirror and go ‘what the hell is this guy anyway.’”

Martin was a paratrooper who jumped on D-Day as part of the 101st Airborne Division.

He continued parachuting into his late 90s up until this past November. Martin said he will not be jumping in April’s event.

A non-profit that helps veterans is putting on this birthday event, which is free and open to the public. It runs April 23rd to 25th at Skydive Greene County.

Three historic aircraft will fly over with a mass parachute drop to honor Martin.

The 101st, 82nd Airborne Divisions, and Golden Knights are expected to participate.

Organizers said the event will be a tribute to all members of the Screaming Eagles for their role as liberators of Europe and freeing people from Nazi Germany’s control.

The living members of the Screaming Eagles will be there for the event.
