TRENDING STORIES:

Republican incumbent Rep. Mike Turner trails Democratic challenger Kristina Knickerbocker by about 5,000 votes.

The last time the Associated Press (AP) updated the results in this race, it was 98% of precincts reported, and Knickerbocker was leading around 4 a.m. November 4.

On Election Day, Knickerbocker and her team declared victory at a watch party in Dayton.

Knickerbocker said her team heard from many outlets that she has won despite the AP not yet officially calling it.

Knickerbocker said they have already started meetings with people across the district and in D.C.

With a race this close, there are many people whom Knickerbocker is preparing to represent that did not vote for her.

“I take care of every single person the same way, and that’s exactly what I’m gonna do when I’m elected,” Knickerbocker said.

If the results hold, it could mean Turner, who has been a lawmaker since 2002, may no longer be in office.

A political science professor at Cedarville University, Kevin Sims, said Knickerbocker will need time to adjust to the new role.

Sims said Congress rewards seniority, which means less desirable committee assignments and less influence.

“Listen, I think that is a shakeup and I, you know, I’ve talked to my students today about that very race, and I shared with them. Okay, there’s one I did not see coming, I mean,” Sims said.

News Center 7 will keep an eye out for the final results as they are released to keep you informed.
