A valid photo ID is any document issued by the United States government or the State of Ohio that includes the following:

  • An expiration date that has not passed
  • A photograph of the voter
  • The voter’s name, which must substantially conform to the voter’s name as it appears in the Poll List or in the Poll Book
  • The voter’s current address, which must substantially conform to the voter’s address as it appears in the Poll List or in the Poll Book UNLESS the ID is an Ohio driver’s license or state ID card

Supporters of the bill hope that this requirement will tighten secure voting procedures.

“Securing the integrity of our elections must be our top priority. We must undertake every effort to prevent voter fraud,” State Senator Niraj Antani (R-Miamisburg) stated.

However, opponents of the bill argued that the requirement will make it harder for Ohioans to vote.
