When officers arrived on the scene, the person was no longer in the area.

Columbus City Schools spokesperson Michael Brown said that the center was placed on a brief lockdown.

Just after 5 a.m. a caller from Columbus City Schools said that they heard a person firing shots.

A bullet casing was found at the transportation center, but it is unclear whether the shots were fired at the location, said Columbus Police Sergeant James Fuqua.

Fuqua said that officers determined that shots were fired at a nearby apartment complex.

Officers spoke to a victim at the apartment complex who was treated for an unrelated injury, but was not shot.

A witness told the officers that the suspect ran away and possibly was picked up by a vehicle nearby.

A suspect description has not been released.

Fuqua said that there is no evidence that links the victim to any ties to the suspect.
