As reported on News Center 7 at 11:00, it was one of the three shootings in Dayton this weekend.

TRENDING STORIES:

The first was early Saturday, around 1:30 a.m., at the 130 block of Arlington Avenue.

The second happened Saturday night, around 7:50 p.m., at a block party at the intersection of Rosedale and Princeton Avenues.

The third shooting was around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday at Salem Avenue and Philadelphia Drive. The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office told News Center 7 that they were called to the scene around 3:30 a.m.

Multiple people called 911.

“There was a major shootout. We are driving. There were two vehicles side by side. There was a huge shootout between the two of them,” the caller said.

News Center 7’s Malik Patterson spoke with the family who identified the man killed on Sunday as Bruce Erwin, Jr.

“Outspoken go-getter, helpful, caring, the jokester,” said Dora Erwin, Bruce’s mom

News Center 7 has contacted the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office to confirm that identity.

The family is in a state of shock.

“I don’t understand,” said Erwin.

Annette Dillard, Bruce’s aunt, said the gun violence is tearing families apart, and it must stop.

“Get them guns off the street, you know, retaliation has to stop,” said Dillard. “Also, you know that’s a big thing going on. No parent should have to bury their child.”

Felons with a Future was also at the event on Sunday. With three weekend shootings, some leaders spoke out about the issue.

“We have to find a way of changing our cultural norms to show people that, you know, the best way to combat violence is changing the way that we think,” said Greg West.

Everyone at the same message.

“I don’t want this to be the summer,” said Dion Green, outreach worker for the Violence Interruption Program. “Let’s laugh, let’s have joy, let’s, let’s, let’s, let’s, instead of tears, let’s be happy.”

Erwin told Patterson that she is dealing with reality.

“Because even if they find out who did it, convict them, and everything. I’m still lost, my son,” she said.

Dayton Police told her that they were conducting a full investigation.

News Center 7 has contacted the Dayton Police Department about each shooting.

We will update this story when more information becomes available.
